Abstract
THE OBJECT of this paper will be to discuss the control of oxygen and carbon dioxid in so far as such control can be brought into the hands of the practical anesthetist to the advantage of patient and surgeon. Nature has provided that animal shall take from the atmosphere what oxygen is needed to support metabolism discharging the resulting carbon dioxid into the atmosphere.
