Abstract
SODIUM AMYTAL (sodium-iso-amyl-ethyl barbiturate) is a hypnotic and not an anesthetic. We have observed, with susceptible, aged, and weakened patients, when using amytal alone, and especially when combined with narcotic preanesthetic medication, very often, reflexes are sufficiently obtunded and a degree of muscular relaxation is obtained with small or moderate doses (3–10 gr.) which equals that of ideal anesthesia, enabling the operator to locate and remove pathology with mixamum convenience.
