The Nature of Anesthesia; Preliminary Observations.*

Abstract

AMONG THE WEALTH of information offered the student in anesthesia, a satisfying explanation of the nature of anesthesia is lacking. Inquiry concerning it is pursued with increasing wonder and curiosity into the widening fields of basic science. Modern theory tells us that we may consider the living cell as a miniature Leyden jar containing two solutions of different H-ion concentration separated by a di-electric lipoid film, and surrounded by a di-electric lipoid film.
