To the Editor:
I congratulate Dr. Dadure et al. (1) for their important study comparing continuous epidural blocks with continuous popliteal nerve blocks for postoperative pain relief after major foot surgery in children. My review of the study, however, left some questions unanswered. First, the authors make reference to a peroperative fentanyl infusion in Tables 1 and 2; however, no mention is made of this in the Methods section. The doses of fentanyl indicated in the table (0.620.98 g/kg) either represent a typographical error or are extraordinarily large.
Second, although the authors note that no prolonged major motor block was seen in either group of patients, an evaluation and discussion of minor motor block noted would be useful to the clinician.
