Echo Rounds

Anesthesia & Analgesia: Volume 104, Issue 3, Page 500.
"Severe Acute Aortic Regurgitation due to Aortic Dissection" by Rao and Auerbach

Data Files:

  • Echo Loop 1 -
Preoperative: aortic insufficiency in the presence of acute aortic dissection is seen. In the long axis view of the aortic valve, the dissection flap is seen to prolapse through the aortic valve into the left ventricular outflow tract. Color Doppler in the same view reveals aortic insufficiency. The short axis view of the ascending aorta reveals the aortic dissection flap to be circumferential.
  • Echo Loop 2 -
Postoperative: The patient has undergone a replacement of his aortic valve and ascending aorta. Long axis view of the aortic valve reveals a well functioning prosthetic valve. Color Doppler in the same view reveals no aortic insufficiency.
