Hypothermia in Acute Lung Injury: Reduction of Barotrauma or Biotrauma?

In Response:

Our study (1) was undertaken to investigate the effect of induced hypothermia on the neutrophil response in terms of inflammatory markers and oxidative burst, not on CO₂ production, etc. Although I agree with Dr. Jufferman's (2) interest in the metabolic effects of hypothermia, it was not the primary interest of our present study.
