Anesthesia & Analgesia: Volume 106, Issue 1, Page 61.
"An Evaluation of Acute Cardiac Tamponade by Transesophageal Echocardiography" by Hosokawa and Nakajima

Data Files:

  • Echo Loop 1 -
Video clip #1. Midesophageal 4-chamber view (0°) shows periodic right atrial compression and pericardial thrombus attached to the right atrium. Midesophageal bicaval view (90°) shows a fluctuated fibrous strand within the pericardial space adjacent to the right atrium.
  • Echo Loop 2 -
Video clip #2. Transgastric short-axis view. Increased left ventricle diastolic wall thickness representing the characteristic feature of “pseudohypertrophy” in cardiac tamponade is apparent. Severe LV global hypokinesia was attributed to ischemic effects of prior cardiac arrest.
