Professional Interests
My focus is on the pharmacology of inhaled anesthetics. Although all aspects of such pharmacology are of interest to me, at the top of the heap is a desire to understand how they act, particularly how they produce immobility in the face of noxious stimulation and how they impair learning and memory. In addition, I continue to have a love affair with the factors that govern how inhaled anesthetics move into and within the body.

Conflicts of Interest
My conflicts of interest include a relationship with Baxter Healthcare Corporation. I am a (well) paid consultant to them and am a member of their speaker's bureau. I have received grant support in the past but not present from them and from Abbott Laboratories. My greatest conflict of interest may arise from my role in the development of desflurane (my baby whom I'll defend to the death).
