Professional Interests
My research focus is on mechanisms of inflammatory injury during sepsis and the use of immunomodulatory approaches to improve antimicrobial immunity in the critically ill host. My major project in the area of sepsis and inflammation is aimed at determining the roles of natural killer cells and cytotoxic T cells in amplifying the pro-inflammatory response and mediating organ injury during sepsis. In the area of immunomodulation, investigators in my lab are using compounds such as the hemopoietic factor Flt-3 ligand and the modified bacterial component monophosphoryl lipid A to boost the host response to burn wound infection and pneumonia.
