Professional Interests
I supervise research projects on the following topics. 1) Central hypersensitivity in chronic pain patients. The mechanisms underlying this phenomenon in patients are investigated using sensory tests, including electrophysiological models. Translational projects aiming at finding applications for clinical purposes are running. 2) Optimization of drug combinations. We developed a novel method to optimize therapeutic regimens and are applying it to clinical questions. 3) Ultrasound-guided interventional pain treatment. As a result of improved ultrasound technology, small nerves that are target of pain procedures can be visualized. We are conducting studies on the applications of ultrasound as guidance for procedures at nerves in pain management. My clinical interests are in the treatment of acute and chronic pain. In the field of chronic pain I have particular expertise in invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under fluoroscopic, CT and ultrasound guidance.
