Professional Interests
My clinical interest is in neuroanesthesia, with particular emphasis on intracranial aneurysms and tumors. My research interest is in modulation of the surgery-induced inflammatory response in order to improve surgical outcomes. Specifically, we investigate the inflammatory modulating actions of local anesthetics. Current clinical studies investigate effects of intraoperative and postoperative IV lidocaine administration on variables such as length of stay, postoperative ileus and postoperative pain. A smaller, but long-standing line of interest is the use of low-dose ketamine as a perioperative adjunct.

Conflicts of Interest
Over the past years, I have received unrestricted funds from Bayer and Endo for participation in multicenter trials by those companies, and for preparation of a manuscript. In addition, I have consulted for MGI Pharma and Eisai, by participating in advisory boards and preparing CME materials.
