Professional Interests
My interests are in the field of cardiovascular anesthesia, the epidemiology of perioperative cardiovascular morbidity/mortality and health services research in this area. Clinically, I provide anesthesia for adult cardiac, major vascular and thoracic surgery. I am interested in monitoring of cardiac function and myocardial ischemia using transesophageal echocardiography and electrocardiography. I have participated in epidemiologic investigations of health care delivery for such surgeries and currently am investigating the “pharmacoepidemiology” of drugs with possible cardioprotecive properties using nationwide databases. I am active in the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists developing educational strategies that will enhance the Journal’s interactions with our membership.

Conflicts of Interest
In the past 5 years I have received material support for educational efforts from Aspect Medical Systems. I currently serve as a medical consultant for a research group at the Almaden IBM Research Laboratory.
