My clinical and research interests center on pain medicine, including acute postoperative pain and regional anesthesia and analgesia. To me, pain medicine represents a continuum of treatment for the patient, and the most interesting work ultimately results in better analgesia, fewer side effects, and more rapid return to or improvement of function for the patient. Research interests include clinical pharmacology of all analgesics, effects of analgesics on both major outcomes and patient-oriented outcomes, and tools to assess such outcomes.
