For Authors

Welcome to the Author's page. Thank you for considering ANESTHESIA & ANALGESIA for your work.

We are honored when authors choose to submit their work to us for consideration. Whether you are an established investigator or are just getting started in a research career, we encourage you to consider ANESTHESIA & ANALGESIA for publication of your papers.

The section for authors contains the most recent Guide for Authors. If you decide to submit your paper to ANESTHESIA & ANALGESIA, we strongly recommend consulting this guide during preparation of your manuscript and any revisions that are requested. We created the Guide for Authors to help you write your manuscript as clearly as possible.

We have created templates to assist with writing your manuscript. You do not need to use a template - they are entirely optional. If you would like to use a template for your paper, please select from Research Report, Case Report, Brief Report, Technical Communication, Echo Round, Review Article, Special Article, and Letter to the Editor.

Transfer of Copyright form is required only for manuscripts accepted for publication.  Please do not send a Transfer of Copyright until you receive a letter of acceptance from the Editorial Office.  Download here: Copyright Transfer Form

Conflicts of interest must be disclosed in all submissions to Anesthesia & Analgesia. Please download and complete the Conflict of Interest Form.

Our goal is to have an initial decision back to Authors within 6 weeks of submission. Our median time is significantly less but sometimes the review process is considerably delayed. We apologize for the delays, and work hard to prevent them.

ANESTHESIA & ANALGESIA is among the most selective journals in our specialty. We currently publish about 30% of the manuscripts submitted. We cannot make any promises about publication, but we do promise to treat each paper thoughtfully, to provide rigorous scientific reviews for those papers forwarded for peer review, and to treat each author with respect, courtesy, and integrity. We also acknowledge that our reviewers and editors are fallible. If authors feel that a reviewer has been unfair, or a manuscript has been rejected for problems that are readily fixed, we are open to discussion and reconsideration. Our goal is to provide the best journal in our specialty. That requires ongoing dialog with our authors.

Two other suggestions for authors:
    1. Please read Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style." It is a great little book, and only costs about 10 dollars.
    2. Keep discussions brief and well focused on your study. Long discussions add only modestly to the value of a manuscript. Look at articles in Science and Nature. They focus on what the investigators did (Methods), and what they saw (Results). This is our goal. If you feel motivated to write a lengthy review, we are always interested in high quality review articles! However, the discussion in original reports should be limited to just enough review of the literature to place the current results in context.

When you are ready to submit your manuscript, please do so using Editorial Manager . Revisions of manuscripts originally submitted on Rapid Review should be submitted to Editorial Manager. Please provide your previous manuscript number for our reference.

Thank you for visiting the Author's page. I welcome your feedback.
